AMUCT President Dr Norbert Lobo and former President Dr A.M. Narahari visited Bangalore to discuss the recent developments in higher education department with Federation Office bearers as well as with the officials on October 3 and 4, 2013. A brief report of the same is given below.
1. FUCTAK GC Meeting: The stormy FUCTAK meeting deplored the apathetic attitude of the Minister of Higher Education for not calling an official meeting to discuss various issues raised by it. FUCTAK has decided to resort to agitations in case the government does not look in to the problems sympathetically. The problems are categorized in to 3 areas:
A. Problems of Government college teachers raised by KGCTA
B. The crisis created by the department of collegiate education in the form of re-deployment of surplus teachers which is inhuman and unscientific.
C. Issues concerning UGC arrears, other arrears, API, PhD incentive increments, placements, stepping up, principals, etc.
2. Meeting with the Commissioner: The new Commissioner Mr.B.G.Nandakumar was very cordial. The issues of FUCTAK under 3 categories were discussed. The redeployment issue was prominently discussed. It was brought to his notice that the issue of workload earlier has been considered by the department by relaxing workload norms. Necessary government orders issued from time to time were brought to his notice. He was urged that those teachers brought back from PU section by relaxing the workload norm must not be disturbed again. Counseling method should have been adopted for a transparent and objective redeployment. He expressed surprise why the department has not brought to his notice these developments. He promised that he would sympathetically look into each case. He requested FUCTAK to make a memorandum in detail about all these issues and he would call an official meeting by 10th or 11th of this month.
3. Meeting with the Chief Minister: The delegation met the Chief Minister Mr.Siddaramayya on 4th and requested him to inaugurate the AIFUCTO Conference in Mangalore on 30th November in Mangalore. It was a fruitful meeting. He enquired about the conference and expressed his intention to accept the invitation. Positive confirmation is expected.
